It has been far too long since we have been able to work on our site!
A full website was in the works, but without a designer that knew what they were doing, it was MONTHS of agony and overdue library books on website creation. We’ll be sticking with the WordPress site for awhile as it seems to be the easiest for all, including our readers, to maneuver.
Also, our first title is still forthcoming! Keep an eye out. We’ll be back in full force VERY SOON!
In the few months since I decided to start this press, some awesome things have happened. Our online journal, The Plot, is doing very well. We’ve had many shares, likes, follows, and general compliments on the caliber of the work we’re putting out into the world. It’s incredible how many writers are submitting with high-quality work. The fact that I get to be the one who helps bring these deliciously dangerous voices to the masses, as managing editor, is a privilege I only ever dreamed of having.
And now, we’ve accepted our first chapbook manuscript for publication! Juliet Cook’s Another Set of Ripped Out Bloody Pigtails will be making its debut this winter! Juliet has a poem, “Disposal,” you can read on The Plot. It’s one of my favorites so far. This chapbook is gritty, bloody, and glamorous and I’m sure it’s going to do incredibly well.
In the meantime, keep an eye out for new pages here on the VP site, including a new masthead that will feature the stellar Villainess Press advisory board, an upgraded/updated look, and a new web address as we make the transition to a new web host (we’re looking to grow and streamline).
Thank you for your support so far, and keep an eye out for new goings-on. Don’t forget to follow us on social media as well.

And you can subscribe to The Plot! We’re putting up new pieces all the time! villainessplot.wordpress.com
As we get started (consider this the soft opening, versus the not-so-grand), I wanted to let everyone know how to keep up with Villainess.

Look us up, share, retweet, stand on street corners wearing sandwich boards and ringing bells. Anything to get the name out there. There already amazing writers and artists signed on for featured work on the Villainess companion online journal where the real action is beginning soon!
Welcome to my new creation, Villainess Press! I am Jillian M. Phillips, Managing Editor. Subscribe to our feed now as we are going to have major goings-on shortly, including a journal/blog. Fans of Delirious Hem and Menacing Hedge, this should be up your alley (I hope).
There will be a submission page soon, but, for now, please send your poems and flash fiction (1-3). We’re going for the Gurlesque (bonus points if you don’t need that that explained, Lara Glenum and Arielle Greenberg have a wonderful anthology, easy to find on Amazon). Think blood and sequins, grotesque glamour, brutal honesty with flair and edge. Don’t be afraid to be dark and velvety. Grimm’s fairy tales with a feminist edge.
We’re especially interested in the marginalized voices, so women, POC, LGBTQ, and everyone in-between/unlabeled, please send your work! Everyone has an equal shot.
Send submissions to VillainessPress@gmail.com.
Thank you for visiting our work-in-progress!
